BYU Blog 7

The observant amongst you will have noticed my over enthusiastic extra blog, two in February is not a monthly blog. But imperfection but aiming for performance is my new name, so to speak.

As my wife will testify I have, and probably still am to some, a perfectionist. As I often say aiming high is not wrong just sole destroying if you never achieve it. Thus I have adjusted over the years and use things like SMART specific measurable achievable relevant time-bound.

So to the past three weeks. The highlight stewarding on car park and seeing start of Rasselbock Backyard Ultra at Sherwood Pines. I also jogged round the loop. Great to chat to runners, spectators, organisers and traders. What a lovely community.

As for training my Strava indicates learning from 'the professionals' such as Karen Nicol interview. Thanks to Matt Field for that link. Slowly introducing stuff to training - tai chi, strength and conditioning, BYU format, hard session, easy session and my own metric 5 min run/jog 2 min walk. Also different times of day, the freedom of no job and retirement. I also threw in a double race day. 9 am Whitworth Thread 5k (not a Parkrun) near Matlock and 10.30 am Wingerworth Wobble near Chesterfield. An annual mainly off road race with plenty up and down. Probably not advisable if you listen to a coach.

If you have not heard I also organise a race - Higham Hill Race, Tuesday 1st April (no, it's true 🤩) 6.30 pm start. Location The Greyhound pub, Higham near Alfreton, Derbyshire. A 4 mile, figure of eight, three uphill tester.

Hopefully see some of you at Rasselbock Clumber 6 hour run on Saturday 30th March.

Don't forget - read the blog, like, comment (all tips, ideas gratefully received) 🏃‍♂️🏃‍♀️🤩
